Version Numbering System
WFRC uses semantic versioning for the Travel Demand Model:
- Major version (X.0.0): Significant model structure changes, new components, or major recalibration
- Minor version (X.Y.0): Network updates, parameter adjustments, new features
- Patch version (X.Y.Z): Bug fixes and minor corrections
Using Archived Versions
When to Use an Archived Version
Archived model versions should only be used in specific circumstances:
Appropriate Use Cases:
- Continuity in existing studies: Complete a planning study that was initiated with an earlier model version
- Comparison and validation: Research comparing model results across versions
- Historical analysis: Understanding how forecasts have evolved over time
- Regulatory requirements: When specific version is mandated by study scope or agreement
Not Recommended:
- Starting new planning studies
- Regional Transportation Plan (RTP) development
- Air quality conformity analysis
- Major corridor studies
Recommended Practice
For all new studies, use the current official release (TDM 9.2.0). If you need to use an archived version:
- Document the rationale in your project documentation and work plan
- Clearly note the model version in all reports, presentations, and technical memoranda
- Consider sensitivity analysis by running key scenarios with the current version for comparison
- Consult with WFRC Analytics team before proceeding to ensure approach is appropriate
