About WFRC Analytics
Who we are
The Wasatch Front Regional Council (WFRC) is the Metropolitan Planning Organization for the Salt Lake and Ogden-Layton urban areas. It serves six counties: Box Elder, Davis, Morgan, Salt Lake, Tooele and Weber.
WFRC’s mission is to build consensus and enhance quality of life by developing and implementing visions and plans for a well-functioning multi-modal transportation system, livable communities, a strong economy, and a healthy environment.
The Analytics team builds the data, models and tools that give those plans a quantitative foundation.
What we do
Models
We maintain the Travel Demand Model together with the Mountainland Association of Governments, plus the Real-Estate Market Model and the Bike Demand Model.
Apps and maps
Interactive tools for commuting, access to opportunity, housing, forecasts and model results.
Data and methods
Data preparation, parameter estimation, calibration and validation, documented and reproducible.
How we work
- In the open. Most of our work lives in public repositories on GitHub. Repositories that need WFRC access are marked Internal on this site.
- Reproducibly. Model runs and calibration are tied to specific model versions, so results can be traced and repeated.
- With standard tools. Python, R, Quarto and web mapping libraries, plus Cube Voyager for travel demand modeling and UrbanSim for real-estate market modeling.
